Food waste that is disposed to landfill generates methane, a greenhouse gas far more powerful than carbon dioxide. Not wasting good food and drink would have the same positive environmental impact as taking 1 in 4 cars off UK roads.

Each year, we waste 1.3 gigatons of edible food and this releases 3.3 gigatons of CO2* (without taking into account land use change). This means that 1kg of food waste equals to 2.5 kg of CO2 or 2.53846 kg to be more exact.

We are ‘weigh’ bigger than we ever thought we would be.

Each day our Food Safety Level 2 trained volunteers open the fridge. They weigh in and out the food that would otherwise go to waste.

We have charted the figures for each month since we opened.

Here is year five so far…

Here are the figures for four:

Total redistribution is 28.258 tonnes which is the equivalent of 67,818 meals and 71,731 KGs of CO2 emissions saved from the bin.

Here are the figures for three:

Total redistribution is 27.539 tonnes which is the equivalent of 66,094 meals and 69,908 KGs of CO2 emissions saved from the bin.

Here are the figures for year two:

Total redistribution is 39.071 tonnes which is the equivalent of 93,769 meals and 99,179KGs of CO2 emissions saved from the bin.

In our first year we grew faster than we could have ever imagined.

We redistributed 24.178 tonnes which is the equivalent of 58,029 meals and 61,377 KGs of CO2 emissions saved from the bin.

Our redistribution figures are increasing and this is all thanks to our volunteers who collect from local stores, farm shops and organisations.

Here is a list of some of our partners so far:

We also have a steady flow of contributions from households and allotments.
